the meaning of home, painted on a wooden plank.

घर

Ghar

  1. Jahaan ek kone mein dhoor,
  2. aur ek kone mein chai aati hai,
  3. aksar pareshaniyaan kuch samay ke liye dhal jaati hain,
  4. puraani yaadein jab phir taaza ho jaati hain,
  5. aur jahaan neend badi sukoon ki aati hai…

— that is ghar.

The hot-pink cottage at Ghar 1964

painted hot pink, on purpose

Ghar 1964 began as a wooden cottage on the edge of Sojha, painted hot pink because the mountains already had every other colour. We are a stay, a cafe, and on most days, a long pause between two sips of chai.

Machli, the black-dog queen of Ghar 1964
machli

machli

ghar ki rani · chief greeter · bonfire supervisor

Machli is the queen of this house. She is a small black cloud who supervises breakfast, escorts every guest to their room, and considers the bonfire patch her personal court. Do not be alarmed if she sleeps on your shoes — that is a compliment.

  • likes ankles, paneer, slow guests
  • dislikes early checkouts, the postman
  • court the bonfire patch, after sunset
